Walking in the Rain

It is a rainy day in the neighborhood but that didn't stop me from doing something that I do each day...walking! I just pulled out my Wally-World umbrella and off I went. I have done this daily for a number of years (even when I worked, I would get up at 5:30 and off I would go) and it is one of my biggest daily BLESSINGS! Yes, it is great exercise and I do need that but it goes a lot deeper than that. This is my time to communicate with God, enjoy His beautiful world, and sort things out as I start my day. As I go down the mountain, I thank God for all of my blessings and the wonderful things going on in my life, and then when I come back up the mountain, I seek His wisdom and ask Him to be in charge of my day, going with me each step of the way. This seems like a one way conversation and it is, in that He doesn"t communicate with me the way you would. I can't hear His words spoken to me out loud but I do know that He is listening and that my life is BLESSED by starting my day this way.

I admire people who can get up early and walk like that. I'm such a non-morning person.

Lovely post. Sounds like you live in a wonderful area for outdoor walking. I have my trust treadmill and am thankful for that "quiet time" to talk with the Lord, too. :)

Nancy,
I'm glad to see we also share a love of walking because we walk every day too! I know we're especially blessed to have our good health and the energy to do this every single day!

I used to walk every day, every day. But the ankle I sprained over 2 years ago is giving me fits. So I go to the gym and do whatever I can. I have to exercise! I do miss the fresh air, though.

I feel the same way you do about walking Nancy! I love my daily walk and prayer time with the Lord, but I have been grounded for awhile due to a bruised bone injury sustained after stepping on a nail a month ago. I still try to walk, cause I miss it so, but end up limping for two days afterwards. I need to be patient.

Thanks for looking at my chaos site! My Mom has been a walker forever! She often says that if she could have a tape recorder in her brain she would have volumes and volumes. She has always said that it was her "therapy". When she just needs to breathe she goes for a walk. Lets keep looking for blessings!

Wow...up at 5:30 in the morning!! It is still dark then. People should still be sleeping then. That is wonderful though that you can do that and it does give you time with God...what a blessing for you..one that I am missing out on for sure! I just go to curves (in the daylight) and I do enjoy that a lot...Have a great Saturday

Your insight is inspiring. Think I'll take a walk tomorrow and while I do,I plan to think about my parents and how much I treasure them. Love your blog. Thanks for stopping by mine.

I love walking too. I don't own a car so I walk everywhere. It is a very good time for meditation and observing the world around you. I see things that most people never even notice.

Cheers,
Josie

I really admire you for getting up and going walking even in the rain! I have been threatening to start jogging for so long now and each time I think I will start then I put it off again - best I start jogging again, huh? lol

Now that I see Jodi's picture at the top of this thread, I realize how a new friend in NC found my blog. The title of your Daily Blessings blog prompted me to dust off an old family story. I posted it tonight 10-30-06:

I am usually driving to work at 5:30 in the morning. That's pretty much when I talk to Him too is when I am alone in my car. Seems like that's when I get the most alone time with having three girls around. It's great getting to spend time with God and I am glad to see that you were enjoying a little bit of that time with Him as well. Have a great day!
