Wedding Detail #5

Katherine moved to a new teaching position and a new town the year before her wedding and had the opportunity to make many new, devoted, friends. There just wasn't enough room in our church to have all of them as bridesmaids so she came up with the idea of honoring each one with a long stem white rose and preferred seating. There was a written sentiment attached to each rose, from Katherine, expressing her appreciation for their friendship and attendance on her special day. Each friend told the usher that they were an honored guest and he ushered her (along with her date/husband) to this vase where they selected a rose and were then seated in a special area, where they could have the perfect view of Katherine's face as she said her vows to Jared. (This area of our church is where the hand bell choir usually plays and is just empty space when they are not playing, so we put the choir chairs in that area adding about 5o extra seats... which we definitely needed- there was even enough seats to honor many of our long time friends as well!). They all felt very special about being honored, they got to arrive at the best time for them with a guaranteed seat, we were able to have our special guest in an area close to the ceremony, and we were able to utilize the empty floor space. FRIENDS... are a BLESSING indeed! (Now about that ugly fire extinguisher... I am showing off my technological inability to crop my pictures!)

Fantastic idea!
I'm sure your daughter is a wonderful teacher, but once again I must say that she certainly would make a great wedding planner and you could be her able bodied assistant..

Sue - No one, let me repeat, no one has enough money to pay me for that stress... now Katherine may be different because I am sure she could use the extra cash (low teacher pay in North Carolina) plus she has a lower stress level than me (and don't forget that she is so much younger than me- ENERGY). Thanks for always stopping by.

I'm just catching up with the last two posts...what incredible and wonderful details she put into this wedding! And the fact that she made such close friends in the span of just one year says a lot about her, I think! She seems so very thoughtful to want to honor so many on her special day!

Tammy- some of the girls she already knew from college but they did not become good friends until they ended up teaching at the same school (how cool is that). Some were also girlfriends of the groomsmen that had become close friends because of Jared. They even honored her with a second bachelorette weekend, plus their moms got involved and gave her a brunch/shower. They call themselves the K'ville gang because they are from Kernersville. How neat is that... and a blessing indeed. I am delighted that you stopped by to catch up.

Flip Flop- Yes, she has always been this way, so even though I would like to take credit... the glory goes to God. She was born with the gifts of organization, detail, and empathy. Thank you for stopping by.

Hey, I'm with you on the wedding stress....our son got married March of 06 and I was the only parent living in the wedding town so I did most everything. Plus the kids even lived out of town. It was a nightmare figuring things out, and being sensitive to a daughter in law....but in the end, it was a beautiful wedding and a wonderful time of healing for our family.....another post! :)

Another wonderful idea! I had two wedding sin 6 months - and was the "mother of the bride" for my DIL, since her mother is in Africa and couldn't come. Still hasn't made it here, thanks to the American Embassy in Kenya. Another post!

Another lovely and creative idea! You and she should co-author a book on creative wedding planning. It would be a best seller in the field.

Nancy G- Thanks for stopping by and I look forward to reading a post someday about your wedding stress. It was worth it, it was as close to perfect as possible, I have so many beautiful memories, but IT IS OVER! And I have being doing the "happy dance" for several months now (well... as much of a "happy dance" as a 55 year "old" lady can do- sorry I know that is a scarry thought for many of my readers)! hehe

Dawn- thanks for stopping by. I haven't heard much about your DIL lately from your posts (but you have had a lot on your plate to deal with). I hope she and your son are doing OK.

Linda H- Now you maybe on to something... I love to write but getting a publisher- I'm not sure they would think of me as creative. This would be the first Mother/Daughter team to write a book that could not spell a single word without spell check or a dictionary. Plus we are lacking in the grammar department too- that part of our brain is the smallest of all. Glad you stopped by. (find me a publisher) hehe

I didn't even notice the fire extinguisher until you mentioned it at the end of your post. I was concentrating on the floral display.

The more I read about your daughter's wedding the more impressed I become with her creativity and warmth toward others. This was a wonderful way to show her appreciation for these special friendships.

Susie Q- You always have the nicest things to say. "Warmth" toward others is a perfect description of her personality but I just never thought of it that way. You have such a way with words and I appreciate your comments as well as your loyalty to "Daily Blessings"!

I am just amazed at all the thoughtfulness for others your daughter put into her wedding. What a sweet heart she has. All of those little touches had to have been very meaningful for those involved. Tell her I think she's just wonderful.

That is a great way to solve the "too many good friends" problem at a wedding. That's a good problem to have.
We were gone camping, but we're back. Thanks for stopping by.

Dawn- I have not read it but I will have to pick up a copy. Thanks for letting me know about it!
