Changes Ahead for the TWINS

This is  my beautiful niece, Sally, with her twin girls, Ella and Mattie, on their first birthday. They are 18 months old now and still just as adorable.  Sally has been an associate pastor for a First United Methodist Church, for about seven years, which is about 30 minutes away from my home.  Starting March 1st, she will be the SENIOR pastor at a First United Methodist church in Rutherford College, which is about an hour away from me.  Normally, all Methodist pastors  being moved to a new church, move on July 1st; old pastors move out of the parsonage in the morning, and the new pastor moves in during the afternoon.  WELL, the new church needs a pastor NOW and Sally gets to be their new pastor.  This is an excellent opportunity for Sally and her family but as with all changes in life... problems are created; a new church family, a house to sell, day care/preschool issues for the twins, a husband traveling an hour to work each day, packing (yikes),and then selfishly, what about my day with the TWINS?  She doesn't have all of the answers right now but tonight she has her first meeting with her new church and a glimpse at her new parsonage, which will be HOME!  What's next? A very busy two weeks...I'll keep you posted, as time permits.  Willingly, I will help them in any way that I can because this is a great opportunity for Sally and her family, which is a BLESSING indeed!  I'm proud of you Sally!

How exciting for Sally and her family. Her new challenges will be many as senior pastor. I learned something today - pastors all moving on the same day. So interesting! Hardly anybody in our church has a parsonage any more, because pastors want to own their own home, but it sure makes life interesting when the are called to a new church and have to sell their house and buy another one.

Packing is so daunting - I'm glad she'll have such good help!

Dawn~ I put that little Methodist tidbit in because I knew that very few of my blogging buddies were Methodist. I really think that it is an amazing feat to have all NC Methodist ministers moving on the same day. Our churches are slowly moving to a housing allowance but it will take a long time to phase it out.

The challenges at the new church will be many but she's excited.

Packing...YIKES...I hate it!

Thanks Sue, it is a wonderful opportunity. I love this picture of them but I was shocked at how much the twins have changed since their first birthday. They grow too fast!

Wow, exciting new path ahead for them!
I don't know how she does it, though...she must be a special kind of person who is truly called by God to do this...I know when I just had one baby at a time, it felt so all-consuming...
She sounds like an amazing person...I'll be praying for their family during this transition.
Hugs,
~Tammy
P.S...What a sweet photo, too!

Tammy, she is absolutely one of the most amazing young ladies that I've ever met. It is so obvious that she is doing exactly what God has called her to do because He works out the tiniest details of her life and her sermons are just awesome, which is a BLESSING indeed! The photo is hands down, my favorite of the three of them! PRECIOUS!

That really is wonderful news Nancy. There will be lots to do to get ready, but I'm sure it will all work out. And thirty minutes isn't that far away!! I'm sure you'll see those cute little bundles just as much as before.

Thanks Linda for your encouragement. Actually, it's 30 minutes from me, where they live now, and that will change to an hour away when they move. But you are right, it's not that far and well worth the trip. I hope you have a great week!

I think in MS it seems like all methodist pastors move in June but maybe it is closer to July....my mother in law is methodist and she thinks them being assigned and moved around is the best and only way! My hubby is currently on a pastor search committee that's been working over a year, so some days it does seem like a good way to get one assigned to your church!
She's a beautiful mom!

Gail~I agree with your MIL, it is a great system, and it eliminates the pastor having to negotiate with the congregation for salary, housing, moving, etc.... This mid year move is VERY unusual. I've never seen it done before but this was a highly unusual situation and Sally will be a great pastor for the healing that is necessary within the congregation. Tell hubby good luck with the search, that system can also work but it takes it's toll on the lay leaders of the church.

Thanks Cris, we are all sooooo excited! There are some new parsonage issues, so she starts as pastor on Mar 1st but will be unable to move until the end of March. She will have to travel back and forth but I can help out more with the twins and her mom (my sister) can also pitch in.

Just wanted to say "hi"! I had to laugh at your previous post about FB! I hardly blog (or even stop by my favorite blogs) now that I joined Facebook - it definitely sucks you in! Anyway, thanks for sharing!

Totally different subject - I saw pictures today of Tiger Woods and his family - his little girl, new baby, wife, and two dogs - including a white Labradoodle. Google him and you might find it!
